X open-sources its new For You algorithm

What changed

X published the code for its rebuilt For You feed on GitHub under Apache-2.0. It combines posts from accounts you follow with out-of-network posts, filters out content such as posts from blocked accounts or with muted keywords, and ranks the rest with a Grok-based transformer that predicts likes, replies, reposts and other actions. The first release left out the actual weighting constants. The repo was created late on 19 January UTC; TechCrunch covered it on 20 January.

Why it matters for creators

This is the primary source for how For You works. Most “algorithm update” claims since then can be checked against the code.
